Making Space for Music: How Planning Transforms Band Kids and Parents

Hey friends, summer can feel like a whirlwind with so many things to juggle—work, kids, and endless to-dos. As a teacher enjoying my summer break, I’ve learned that taking a look at a calendar helps me remember important dates and plan ahead. I’ve always had a love for planners—anyone else?! I couldn’t wait to create the new 2025 Summer Music Wall Calendar and share it with the Joyful Noise family, setting the stage to bring order and a new rhythm to our busy lives.

With my daughter out of her half-day preschool routine, and my big goal of launching Joyful Noise, I wanted our transition to be filled with love and discipline, not chaos. I scheduled “Mom and Daughter Days”—no work, just fun summer activities like park trips or ice cream runs. These days, marked on my calendar, give us something to look forward to. Mornings are our anchor: I rise early to pray and read my Bible, and she wakes up for morning snuggles and “playing school.” Building in a 10-minute practice session then is a win—it almost always happens. Later plans often slip, but this routine keeps us grounded. Launching Joyful Noise required planning too—booking a babysitter, setting work hours, and picking workshop days to grow as an educator and business owner.

As I’ve navigated this summer shift, I’ve realized how planning can turn chaos into calm for both of us. What about you? Are you thinking about your family’s summer goals—maybe fitting in music amidst the fun? Let’s explore how a simple calendar can help you carve out space for practice, routines, and shared adventures, making music a part of your days.

Three Ways to Make Space for Music

  • Make Space for Music Goals: Write down lessons or song goals on the 2025 Summer Music Wall Calendar. Signing up for Joyful Noise groups ensures practice fits in—check it out at joyfulnoisebeginningband.com!
  • Craft a Daily Routine: Kids thrive on routine, and after implementing practice into your morning flow, making music becomes a natural habit.
  • Plan Summer Activities Together: Create a bucket list—park days, picnics—and mark them weekly. Check out the fun stickers in the calendar—many have ideas for summer fun and can be inspirational and motivating for kids and parents alike.

Hey, planning with your kids is like a gift we give each other—it turns the crazy summer days into moments we cherish. With this calendar, your little musicians grow more confident, strumming or playing with a smile, while you feel less lost and more in control. Doing it together? That’s where the magic happens—it’s teaching them life skills like sticking with something, all while we bond over music.
